We’re Back!

Ave Nova Roma is back, and with a brand new look and rules system! Over the next few weeks, we will be updating this website and Facebook with our new House Rules and preparing for incredible adventures in two venues and three IC locations: Nova Roma, Mordavia, and Silmaria! 

We hope to see you at the new Ave Nova Roma! Keep checking this site for updates on the first game and the use of D&D 5e rules!

New Website

In an effort to put all of our resources into one website, a couple of our players have set up a website with a Forums list at http://avenovaroma.webs.com. This website will have all the pertinent information on Ave Nova Roma and the upcoming Tales from the Caravan, a new game using our rules system and game world set in Mordavia, on the opposite Saturday from Ave Nova Roma.

Next game will be on the 22nd. At that time we will bring up what is in store for the summer, and where the campaign goes from here. Ave heroica viatores! Ave Nova Roma!

New Spells Added

New spells added as of 3 JUN:

  • Banish & Summon
  • Flame Wave
  • Force Wave
  • Icicle
  • Lightning Arc
  • Madness

Most of these additions are to address glaring omissions in the spells list. Banish & Summon is a PC-created spell and is restricted accordingly for character creation. A couple of the spells, Force Wave and Madness, were introduced by NPCs in previous sessions and have been deemed fit for PC use as spells. Finally, we are planning an update to the Equipment and Alchemy packet to include the revised rules for Stamina pills and potions, and to include the poisons that have been created and used IC by PCs.

Our next Ave Nova Roma session at the Vega House shall be at 7pm on June 8th. Among the upcoming plots include the new unveiling of the Colosseum, continued attacks from the Toscan military, a Midsummer Fae’s dream, and the Patrician’s Council’s secret plans finally revealed! Come, join us, and be one of the celebrated Heroes of Nova Roma!

As usual, site fee for the Vega House is $3. Recruitment and Props donation can earn rewards to prospective players; see the House Rules or the Narrator staff for details.

Next Game: 25 MAY 13, and some Rules Updates

The next Ave Nova Roma will be on Saturday, May 25th, at 7pm! As always, character creation is IC for new characters, so you will meet other characters while filling out your “Guild Application”.

Feedback on which rooms would be best to use for Mod Rooms is welcome. Currently, we use the Basement for the Catacombs Mod room, and the Attic for the Wilderness mods; however, if you have a better suggestion, we would certainly like to hear it!

As stated at the last game, in accordance with last week’s Spells List changes, the magic rules have been altered. The new rules can be found in a link in the House Rules, or you can follow this link.

If you’re on Facebook, we’ve just created a Facebook page (rather than having everyone on Facebook follow my personal page). All new posts on this site will also be publicized there.

Spells List Overhaul

The spells list has undergone some significant changes. If you have a character with the Sorcery stunt, check out the list below to see if a spell you use has been affected:

Spells that have been modified:

  • Augment (clarification only, no mechanical changes)
  • Blessing (duration was modified)
  • Charm (clarification)
  • Detect Magic (clarification)
  • Force Bolt (attack and maneuver uses separated and dependent on caster choice)
  • Hide (additional use of Augment added)
  • Spire (new spell)
  • Stone Wall (new spell)
  • Summon Staff (Sorcery and Empowered Casting now add to staff’s Fate Points)
  • Transmogrify (clarification: transmogrifying into a half-creature is not normally valid without in-character training, signed off by the Narrator)
  • Zap (duration was modified)

There are currently 37 spells in the spell list, and players may research new spells. Research ties up a Refresh point and takes research time equal to two weeks plus two weeks per Empowered Casting stunt required by the spell. As a rule, a spell doing straight damage or laying an aspect on a scene does not require Empowered Casting; increasing the number of targets, granting exceptions to the spells effects, or effects more powerful than an Aspect will require Empowered Casting stunts. Other requirements (a physical object to deliver the spell, for example) may lower the number of Empowered Casting stunts required, subject to Narrator approval.
